We have an exciting opening in our team to cover maternity leave for 12 months on a fixed term or secondment. This is a great opportunity for an experienced Children's Nurse to join our dynamic and friendly Children's Community Complex Care Team.
As the team leader, you will be responsible for managing a team of nurses and support workers. You will oversee the completion of the continuing care assessments and the provision of care packages.
We are looking for a motivated individual with excellent communication skills. You will act as a role model, demonstrating high standards of care and providing clinical leadership. You will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating children's nursing care in the community setting. Knowledge of the children's continuing care framework and partnership working with the commissioners and the multi-disciplinary teams are vital to this role.
You will need to be able to work flexibly. Although the role is predominantly office hours, Monday to Friday, the service is 24 hours, and you will occasionally be required to work nights and weekends to cover shifts and supervise Band 3 support workers.
You will also be required to deputise for the Head of Service / Matron in their absence.

Main duties of the job
* To have day-to-day leadership, management, and development responsibility of a dedicated children's service and to hold a designated paediatric caseload.
* To work as an autonomous clinician in a defined area to develop and provide expert clinical advice, support, and care to a defined group of patients.
* To oversee the completion of the children's continuing care assessments, working in collaboration with the commissioners to offer appropriate care provision.
* Monitor and review the implementation of treatment plans and make changes within agreed protocols, pathways, or models for clinical effectiveness.
* Empower children and young people and their families/carers through appropriate support and education.
* To establish and maintain individual and team communication networks within primary, secondary, and tertiary care settings to ensure multi-disciplinary and multi-agency training programmes.
* Develop working relationships with primary, secondary, and tertiary clinicians to ensure patient care is of high quality and appropriately delivered, and be a source of clinical expertise for other practitioners.
* Develop protocols and pathways of care based on current evidence-based guidelines to ensure best practice.
* Provide clinical supervision and leadership to ensure high clinical standards and facilitate the development of individual team members.
* To work with the Children's Community Nursing Manager in developing services particular to children's complex care.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* RSCN/RN Child Registered on NMC register.
* Teaching certificate.
* First level degree in relevant subject.
* BSc Specialist practitioner degree in children's community nursing.
* Working towards Masters level.
* Advanced Communication skills.
* Leadership and Management Qualification.
Skills/Knowledge and Understanding
* Wide range of clinical skills in children's complex care (including long term ventilation, tracheostomy management, compromised airways, and Acquired Brain Injuries).
* Proficient IT skills with good use of Microsoft Word, Excel, EPR (Electronic Patient Records), etc.
* Up-to-date knowledge and skills in caring for children with complex care needs.
* Understanding of the holistic needs of children and families with complex care needs.
* Understanding of the commissioning cycle and NHS budgets.
* Previous experience of mentoring and assessing pre-Reg/TNA/CSP students.
* Knowledge of research methodology and application to practice.
Experience
* Previous community experience.
* Significant post-registration experience at band 6 level with clinical skills that include invasive and non-invasive ventilation, tracheostomy, oxygen therapy, suctioning, gastrostomy care.
* Experience of successfully managing the implementation of change.
* Experience in identifying education and training needs of staff.
* Previous experience with audit/quality initiatives.
* Experience of multidisciplinary/multi-agency working.
* Experience in arranging study days regarding teaching groups (i.e., families, nurseries, schools, and other nurses' teams).
* Experience of caring for children in an integrated team including palliative care and special needs school nurses.
* Exposure to resource management including staff and budget management.
