Domestic Assistant Team Leader
Langlands Hospital, Glasgow, G51 4TF
12 Months, fixed term contract. 35 hours per week.
Salary £26,869.00
- £28,998.00 pro rata, depending on experience plus Serco benefits.
Main Purpose:
The purpose of the job is to ensure the domestic and portering services are provided to the expected standards as per work schedules within the Langlands Building. Organising and allocating domestic and portering duties to staff ensuring that these duties are carried out to the standard of all cleaning schedules in a safe manner do this.
The main responsibilities include supporting the management of a full range of human resources management issues as appropriate including absence, performance, initial investigation and first line disciplinary processes, recruitment and selection, personal and professional development of staff, customer relationship building, management of customer expectations, problem solving and dispute resolution at first level.
Main Accountabilities:
- Supporting the Domestic Manager to ensure a fully operational effective service is provided to the contract.
- Ensuring all staff are trained to the required standard to carry out their duties.
- To ensure the delivery of cleaning and customer services to an agreed standard as defined in the service level specification within agreed clinical areas and departments to ensure customer satisfaction.
- To comply with the NHSGGC & Serco policies on Health & Safety, Infection Control, COSHH and other statutory legislation.
- Supervise the cleaning of work procedures that incorporate all quality standards laid down by the client or Serco and Environmental audits.
- Complete the Domestic work methods as trained and instructed within BIC’s standards.
- Supervise the emptying, disposure and replacement of domestic waste containers as directed and ensure that waste is disposed of correctly in line with NHSGGC’s Infection control manual.
- Maintain high personal hygiene and infection control standards.
- Participate as a full member of the wider team supporting colleagues and working flexibly to cover other members of the team.
- Assisting and liaison with Department Managers.
- Reporting on the facilities general condition and repair in terms of maintenance reporting and hazard spotting.
- Complete PMS audits in line with contract output specifications.
- Cooperate fully with audit findings in relation to NHSGG&C or Serco Performance audits in agreed priority timescales.
- Input, review and 1st line authorisation of payroll data.
- Support the management of a full range of human resources management issues as appropriate including: staff allocation, absence management, performance management, annual leave allocation, initial investigation and first line disciplinary processes, recruitment and selection and personal and professional development of staff.
- Occasionally required to conduct investigatory interviews.
- Be expected to handle and diffuse difficult situations involving personnel from within and out with the organisation.
- Investigating 1st Level client complaints, suggesting action plans, and monitoring improvements and providing written reports.
- Supervise and monitor work completed by Domestic & Portering Staff to ensure that performance levels and service requirements are maintained.
- Assisting in the stock check, control, purchase and procurement of materials, equipment, and supplies.
- Undertake other ad hoc duties as prescribed by manager and within scope of skill and capability.

What you will need for the role:
- Good communication skills while dealing with colleagues, patients, visitors, and other staff members.

- BICs training to Operator Proficiency Certificate Level 1 (OPC L1) – this is provided through on the job training.
- Requires a good working knowledge of Serco and NHSGGC working practices and procedures whilst adhering to Health and Safety requirements.
- Completion of core competency and mandatory training as specified within training plan e.g. manual handling, fire safety, BIC’s, etc.
- Able to use own initiative in problem solving on day-to-day issues.
- Self-motivated and ability to motivate others.
- Confident and have a helpful nature.
- IT literate – Microsoft Office.
- Working experience preferably in healthcare and /or contract sectors.
- Being able to balance conflicting priorities within the given time.
- Excellent communication with patients, visitors, NHSGGC and Serco staff.
- Planning and supervision of work rotation and allocation to Portering and Waste Staff
- Experience/knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures or relevant experience.
- The postholder will be multi skilled in a variety of tasks. All tasks require some form of physical effort. All staff will be trained in correct way of carrying out each task efficiently and in the use of different types of machinery and equipment.
- This is a physical role and the postholder will be required to be mobile for most of their daily working pattern with manual handling.
