Science Teacher - SEMH, MLD
Type: Permanent
Start: ASAP (06/01/2025 onwards)
Location: Stroud
Pay: MPS1 - UPS3 + SEN allowance (£2,539)
Our client is a well-established Special School, serving secondary-aged pupils with EHCPs mainly relating to SEMH but often with other associated needs such as MLD, ASC. The school has development plans for the future to enhance their offer and welcome more students. They are building on the opportunities they create for their learners by providing access to services.
They are seeking an experienced Science Teacher specializing in any of the science subjects, although you'll be delivering general science. The students are aged 11-16 and sit qualifications including Functional Skills & GCSEs. Class sizes are between 5-8 students. Experience with any exam board curriculum is welcome. One of the school's development targets is to welcome 17-19 year olds in the near future, so if you're experienced in this phase and have expertise to offer, this would be very welcome. The school is also very supportive of their colleagues and welcomes ECT wishing to complete their induction while gaining experience with older students.
If you have previous experience working with learners that have SEMH and have experienced trauma, who may have other needs relating to ASC, MLD, etc., you would be particularly well-suited for this role. Individuals skilled in recognizing individual emotional and educational needs and who can respond to and create accessible learning activities around the needs of learners will be well-suited. Empathy and patience are key character traits sought when considering candidates for this setting.
If you have already had training in positive behaviour management such as Team Teach / PBM / MAPA and/or THRIVE training, we would be particularly interested in hearing from you, although we can offer you training if you're successful in being appointed.
It would be great to hear from you if you have:
* Experience of working with children who have had to overcome barriers and difficult situations
* The ability to engage parents in supporting children at home by helping to set boundaries and manage behaviour
* The desire to go through training and deliver ideas so that they can be implemented
* A passion for working with young people in education
* A good understanding of what makes an effective intervention strategy
* A commitment to safeguarding young people and helping them overcome difficulties
* A commitment to ensuring students maximize every opportunity to achieve academically and personally
* The ability to work within a dynamic and challenging environment
* Excellent communication and teamwork skills
What's it like to work here?
Fun and rewarding are the easiest words to use. Of course, there are difficult days, but if you thrive on making a difference and enhancing opportunities for learners that don't follow a traditional education pathway, you'll enjoy this role. The school is really open-minded to the background of the applicant, but to fit in with the current teaching staff team, if you're good at your job with good subject knowledge, work hard, and are happy to be flexible in going the extra mile, you'll be perfect.
What else is on offer?
* This is a great opportunity for anyone looking for a role that offers training opportunities, career progression within the organization, and to be part of a supportive organization with expansion plans in the near future.
* As an employer, the trust offers an extensive benefits package to all of its employees.
* ECT induction support.
