Role
This role is an exciting opportunity to work on Eastern Green Link 1 (EGL1), the first east coast HVDC link, a £2.5bn construction project. The Senior Site Supervisor is a key role within the Scottish Power Transmission HVDC Business, focusing on the delivery of large-scale projects in the UK. Belonging to the HVDC team and reporting to the Convertors Project Manager, the role of Senior Site Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that the site-based construction activities carried out by the Principal Contractor (PC) across the project are efficiently managed in accordance with company policies and procedures.
What you'll be doing
1. Ensure that the Principal Contractor (PC) is proactive in discharging their duties under the CDM regulations, managing all safety aspects of the construction-based activities.
2. Review and comment on the deliverability of the PC Site Delivery Programmes and proactively monitor all activities, promptly advising the Project Manager of any risks, opportunities, or delays to the programme.
3. Act as Subject Matter Expert with industry construction standards, especially regarding Earthworks, civil construction, Substations, Cabling, and Tunnelling.
4. Facilitate regular site safety walks, hold coordination meetings with all contractors on site, ensuring that access/egress to the site is controlled.
5. Review the suitability of Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
6. Ensure the PC is proactive in holding Site Progress Meetings and issuing minutes of these meetings.
7. Support Quality Assurance monitoring across the Major Project.
8. Undertake the role of Engineer's representative for monitoring of site construction activities.
9. Enact the role of Employer's Supervisor under NEC contracts.
10. Issue site instructions following agreement from the EPC Project Manager.
11. Assist the Commissioning Engineer to review and confirm that the PC Commissioning programme is acceptable from a delivery perspective.
12. Ensure that a drawing documentation system is established on site, maintaining the system throughout with the latest working drawings/revisions clearly noted.
13. Coach and mentor other members of staff as required.
What you'll bring
1. Good interpersonal and communication skills.
2. Extensive experience of construction standards, especially regarding Earthworks, civil construction, Substations, Cabling, and Tunnelling.
3. Basic Project Management skills including management of risk for delivery of projects.
4. Expert understanding of Safety and Environmental legislation and practices.
5. Good knowledge of CDM Regulations.
6. Previous experience of project site management capability in a contracting environment.
7. Specific knowledge and experience of design, installation, and commissioning of HVDC Cables or Complex EHV installations is a distinct advantage.
Minimum Requirements
1. Essential to have a current full UK driving licence.
2. Expert knowledge of one or more disciplines: Earthworks, Civil construction, Substations, Cabling, and Tunnelling.
3. NEBOSH, IOSH, or SMSTS certification.
4. Extensive experience of working at 275kV and 400kV.
5. HNC / HND or equivalent experience in an engineering or construction discipline.
6. Formal training in Construction H&S, CDM, Risk Assessment & Method Statements, Environmental, Duty of Care, and Waste Management.
7. Familiar with Basic Safety Rules and hold ‘Person’ and “BESC” Authorisation.
