Tanterton Christian Fellowship is a church at the heart of the community. We provide many activities for the wider community which are well attended. Our desire is to reach out to all those who attend at least one of our community activities and encourage them to learn more about salvation.
In view of this, we are looking to create a new part-time role to reach out to our local community, building links with existing agencies and bridging the gap between various midweek activities and our Sunday service.
Community Outreach Work Overview: Main Responsibilities
The main responsibilities for the role will fall into the following five categories:
1. Community Outreach: Focus on building strong relationships with the local community. Engage in outreach programs that ensure the local community knows about the activities we provide, the Sunday services, and midweek bible studies. We will also be running Alpha courses as the need arises.
2. Collaborate with Other Organizations: Partner with local nonprofits, community centres, or schools to create opportunities to use our facilities or provide support for relevant joint programs or events.
3. Offer Relevant Services: Identify the specific needs of the community and discuss with the leaders how TCF might be able to address those needs. This could include providing counselling, financial literacy workshops, job training, or other practical support. By offering services that directly benefit the community, we can attract people who may not have considered attending TCF.
4. Structure Events: Promote and organise events that connect the community to the church.
5. Current Church Activities: Be a regular and friendly presence at church activities such as the Tuesday Coffee Stop and midweek children & youth groups. Attend the church leaders’ meetings as appropriate. Provide reports when requested.
Accountability
The Community Outreach worker will be employed by Tanterton Christian Fellowship. The successful candidate will have a line manager to supervise their induction and development in the role. The work of the Community Outreach Worker should be undertaken within and in sympathy with the faith and ethos of the Baptist Union.
Management
The role holder will be accountable to the senior pastor and leadership team. The role holder will be line-managed by a person nominated by the leadership team.
