Job Title: Microbiology Laboratory Technician
Location: Reading Scientific Services Ltd, 2-3 Millars Business Centre, Fishponds Close, Wokingham, Berkshire, RG41 2TZ
Contract Duration: 6 Months
Working Hours: Saturday & Sunday, 11am – 4pm (with potential for additional hours on weekdays)

Reading Scientific Services Ltd. (RSSL), part of Mondelez International, is a leading provider of scientific analysis, consultancy, product development, and training services to sectors including food, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals. They are currently looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Microbiology Lab Technician to join the team for a 6-month contract.
Role Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated individual with a microbiology background to conduct routine laboratory testing. This role is lab-based and involves working on critical testing areas such as endotoxins, bioburdens, total viable count, and environmental monitoring. The position is weekends-only (Saturday & Sunday, 11am to 4pm), with the potential for additional weekday hours depending on availability.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct routine microbiological testing, including endotoxins, bioburdens, and total viable counts.
2. Perform environmental monitoring and maintain accurate records of all tests conducted.
3. Work in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards.
4. Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent and reliable results.
5. Document and report findings to senior laboratory staff and supervisors.
6. Participate in team meetings and contribute to lab improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
1. A microbiology-related degree or currently studying microbiology or a similar field.
2. Previous experience in a laboratory environment is desirable but not essential.
3. Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) is desirable.
4. Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow detailed protocols.
5. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
7. Availability to work every weekend (Saturday & Sunday, 11am – 4pm).
Training:
1. Full training will be provided (approximately 4 weeks of mid-week training).
2. The training will cover the specifics of the role, and the more experience a candidate has, the less training may be required.
Additional Information:
1. This is a weekend-only role with potential additional weekday hours. Full-time hours are not guaranteed.
2. The position is ideal for recent graduates, current students, or individuals with a strong microbiology background.
3. Ideal candidates should be able to start ASAP. However, a notice period of up to 4 weeks can be accommodated.
