The successful candidate will work closely with the existing rheumatologists. There are ten programmed activities over the typical working week: 8 PAs per week will be dedicated to direct clinical care and 2 PAs to supporting professional activities such as audit, teaching, appraisal, clinical governance, and service development. It is expected that the post holder will participate in the active audit programme in the department and keep up with continuing professional development as laid down by the Royal College of Physicians. The Hospital is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities. An active mentoring programme for newly appointed consultants is available and receives positive feedback from participants.
The Hillingdon Hospital provides a general Rheumatology service for the people of Hillingdon. The department started in April 2002. There are 2 rheumatology specialist nurses at Hillingdon Hospital, who run clinics alongside those of the existing rheumatologists. They carry out the preliminary work-up for patients recommended for biological or targeted synthetic therapies and escalate csDMARD, bDMARD, and tsDMARD therapies to achieve remission.
There are weekly radiology meetings with one of the musculoskeletal radiologists.
Secretarial and clerical/administrative support is provided by two patient pathway coordinators. The consultant will have access to IT and office accommodation. No on-call work is envisaged.
