Job Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to work as an Assistant Psychologist in our Acute mental health wards based at Mill View Hospital, Brighton and Hove. This is a new role that recognises the importance of psychological input to make inpatient admissions more therapeutic and to support timely discharges.
About The Role
We are seeking a confident and enthusiastic Assistant Psychologist with experience of working with adults with complex needs in a mental healthcare setting to support the acute psychology team and to enhance the psychological care of patients in the service. You will work under the supervision of a qualified HCPC registered Practitioner Psychologist to provide assessment and delivery of evidenced-based psychological interventions to individuals and groups.

Mill View hospital is a busy Mental Health hospital in Hove with Adult acute wards, Older adult ward and Psychiatric Intensive Care. We strive to deliver care that is personalised and collaborative.
Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
1. To support and enhance professional psychological practice within the service.
2. Providing support, co-ordination and administration to clinical, training and research functions within the scope appropriate to level of training and competence.
3. To work independently according to a plan agreed and reviewed through regular supervision by a HCPC registered Practitioner Psychologist.
4. To undertake projects relating to service development and evaluation.
5. To set up databases, spreadsheets and using advanced IT skills in evaluation audit and research.
6. To support assessment and treatment interventions undertaken by the service as appropriate to level of competence and training.
7. To plan, organise and co-teach psycho-educational courses and groups with appropriately qualified professional staff.
8. To liaise with a range of services (including health, social care and voluntary agencies) relevant to the working area.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Honours degree at 2:1 or above in Psychology, or equivalent. Eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartership with the BPS.
Knowledge/Experience
* Relevant clinical and research skills.
* Experience of working as part of a team.
* Basic knowledge of databases, research skills and methodology.
* Ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a health context.
* An understanding of psychology applied to health care.
