Design Manager
Location: London / South West / South East
Our ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years' experience in the management of design in a civil engineering environment, preferably within aviation. They must be able to demonstrate relevant experience in Design Management within a civils background.
Responsibilities
The project is at an early stage design for the rebuild of an MOD base, and the ideal candidate would have worked at a pre-construction stage ideally within the aviation sector.
1. Management and delivery of design information in accordance with the agreed design programme and deliverable schedule.
2. Design input at both preconstruction and construction stages of projects.
3. The production of design programmes, design scopes, design responsibility matrices, appointments, and schedules.
4. Experience with ASITE and Navisworks would be preferred.
5. Attending/chairing necessary meetings and workshops with internal and external stakeholders.
6. Able to clearly identify the extent of sub-contractors' design scope on a package-by-package basis and work with the procurement team to ensure the correct elements of completing the design are bought within each package.
7. Assess the competency/capability of the sub-contractors' design facility and feed into the sub-contractor selection process.
8. Review and understand the construction programme and then develop/review subcontractor design delivery programmes to ensure design information is presented in a timely fashion to suit fabrication/works on site.
9. Receive incoming design information from the main designer and review for completeness. Subsequently, distribute to appropriate sub-contractors for review and inclusion within their design process.
10. Liaise with the design team in various appropriate forums to ensure the incoming base design information suits the project budget and intended construction methodology.
11. Ensure incoming sub-contractor design information is delivered in a timely fashion and is of the required quality.
12. Critically review the sub-contractor designs to ensure it meets the performance criteria set by the base information, completes the design as set out within the sub-contractors' design package, and suits the intended construction methodology.
13. Ensure interfacing designs delivered as part of separate packages are well coordinated and cover the full scope of contractor design works.
