JOB OVERVIEW
We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Design Engineer who has a qualification in Mechanical Engineering (or similar), related production/manufacturing industry experience, and a keen understanding of lean principles and tools, root cause analysis, and Six Sigma methodologies.
Working as the Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the Production Engineering department and be an integral part of a dynamic team that values teamwork and supports each other towards a common goal.
As the Design Engineer, you will be the “go-to” person for focusing on enhancing existing products and creating/optimising production tooling designs. Using engineering software such as SolidWorks, ePDM, and Epicor ERP System, you will contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and implement customer-specific customisations.

DUTIES
Your duties as the Design Engineer will include:
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for product enhancements, cost reductions, and quality improvements
* Design components suitable for manufacture while optimising for assembly into the final product
* Create and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including CAD drawings, bills of materials, and engineering change orders
* Design and optimise solutions for existing products
* Design and optimise tooling, jigs, fixtures, and equipment to improve manufacturing processes and product quality
* Participate in DFMEA & PFMEA activities to proactively identify and mitigate potential design failures
* Maintain and create components and assemblies using Epicor ERP, SolidWorks, and ePDM
* Analyse data and performance metrics to inform decision-making and prioritise improvements
* Apply Lean methodologies to design and quality processes to eliminate waste and improve efficiency
* Investigate and identify root causes of product and process issues, implementing corrective actions
* Collaborate with Production Engineering to ensure designs are production-ready
* Create and deliver presentations using PowerPoint for design proposals and project updates

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
* BSc/BEng (hons) in Mechanical Engineering or similar with industrial experience
* HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering plus relevant industrial experience
* Level 4 or higher engineering apprenticeship with industrial experience
* A methodical PDCA mindset
* Understanding of lean principles & tools (8 wastes, kaizen, kanban, FMEA, Poka-Yoke) and root cause analysis techniques (A3, 5 Why’s, Fishbone, Fault Tree)
* Proficiency in Epicor ERP, SolidWorks, and ePDM
* Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
* Experience applying Lean principles in manufacturing
* Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
* Ability to perform root cause analysis and implement solutions
* Data-driven approach to technical data interpretation
* Experience with tolerance analysis and FMEA/PFMEA
* Excellent communication and presentation skills
* Self-motivated with ability to work independently and in teams
* Knowledge of food equipment industry standards (ETL/UL/NSF)
* Knowledge of sheet metalwork, welding, etc.
