Job Purpose The Utilities Manager plays a critical role in ensuring continuous utilities and general site maintenance. This position contributes to legal compliance, energy usage optimisation, and the overall efficiency and safety of the site’s infrastructure. Key Responsibilities Lead and execute the departmental maintenance strategy for people, plant, and utilities. Monitor and deliver key maintenance KPIs including cost per hectolitre, plant availability, team engagement, and Lean/TPM implementation. Drive effective maintenance planning to improve plant reliability and reduce costs. Forecast utility consumption and provide data to the finance team. Manage and optimize utilities and facilities budgets with a focus on continuous improvement. Generate site-wide performance reports (e.g., kWh/hL, hL/hL). Ensure achievement of Utilities KPIs through strong cross-site engagement. Support, challenge, and collaborate with the wider engineering team. Serve as the site duty holder for electrical systems, including high voltage and domestic supply. Maintain facilities to GMP standards suitable for a beverage manufacturing environment. Oversee embedded Facilities Management contractors (e.g., ISS) to deliver high-quality, cost-effective services. Apply world-class manufacturing techniques to resolve recurring technical issues. Lead the site’s environmental agenda and manage relations with regulatory bodies. Ensure full statutory compliance across utility systems: boilers, steam, compressed air, refrigeration (including ammonia), CO₂/N₂ systems, water treatment, and L8 (Legionella) requirements. Candidate Profile Qualifications Degree in Engineering or equivalent. Experience Proven experience in utilities and facilities management within complex, fast-paced manufacturing environments. Background in FMCG, ideally in the food or beverage sector. Experience in managing engineering functions with compliance and safety frameworks. Demonstrated success in applying Lean or TPM principles in manufacturing. Knowledge of ISO systems (e.g., Environmental, H&S, Food Safety, Quality). Skills & Competencies Strong problem-solving and evaluation skills. Familiarity with CMMS and maintenance planning systems. Excellent relationship-building with both internal teams and external suppliers. Coaching and people development skills to boost team performance
