The Housing & A Fairer Stockton-on-Tees service are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, innovative and self-motivated individual to join the Selective Licensing team to help regulate housing conditions and management practices in the private rented sector in the borough.
The team are committed to improving housing conditions and protecting residents within our area, ensuring everyone has a safe and well-maintained home. We take a twin track approach, working positively with those landlords who take their responsibilities seriously, whilst taking the strongest possible action against those who neglect their responsibilities, making full and appropriate use of legislation to achieve this goal.
The emphasis in this role is on carrying out property inspections to ensure that legal standards are met, tackling unsatisfactory conditions and undertaking investigations of poor housing conditions and unsatisfactory management of licensed properties within the private rented sector.
Ideally applicants should be able to demonstrate:
- Experience of working directly or closely related field within private sector housing enforcement/licensing.
- An awareness of the legislation, regulations, and codes of practice relevant to taking enforcement action in relation to improving housing conditions.
- Experience in the production of formal letters, statutory notices, schedules of work, technical reports and plans.
- Practical and procedural knowledge of investigative and/or enforcement work.
Ability to assess housing conditions using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) along with experience preparing and producing witness statements, case files and attending court and/or tribunals to give evidence as and when necessary is also desirable but not essential.
