KEY DUTIES The post holder will develop own and others knowledge and practice across professional and organisational boundaries. Use his/her knowledge and skills as a basis from which to further educate and develop neurodevelopmental nursing skills internal and external to the Trust. Understand the implications of the social, economic and political context of health care. Be recognised by patients and fellow health professionals as having expertise in a clinical speciality with enhanced skills in areas such as empowerment, communication and consultation. Use complex reasoning, critical thinking, reflection and analysis to inform their health assessments, clinical judgements and decisions. Act as a leader for change with individuals, groups and communities, crossing professional and agency boundaries to achieve this. Network locally, regionally, nationally and internationally, recognising the ethical, legal and professional constraints on practice. Be aware of, and adhere to risk management standards and assess and manage clinical risk. Have aspects of research and management included in the role but the main focus purpose and impact of the work will be with individuals, groups and communities. Identify own and others personal development needs and take effective action to address them. Engage in flexible, cross-boundary partnership working, facilitating communication and understanding between individuals, groups, professions and managers. This includes: Provision of expert clinical advice to include setting up and running sleep and behaviour groups for children, young people, and families under the care of the service. Provision of specialised advice and support to children and young people with a neurodevelopmental disability across a variety of settings, to include clinics, home, education establishment Educational guidance / skill-sharing. Continuous review of the service. Managing own case load. Working closely with Consultants and Multidisciplinary Team Referral to outside organisations. Act up in absence of Nursing Team Lead CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Professional Registration. Adhere to relevant Code of Practice of Professional body. To personally ensure fulfilment of the requirements for professional updating and to maintain a personal record for future revalidation. To present an appearance which gives a positive image of the Trust and the manner that which is appropriate and which inspires confidence To monitor quality of own practice and participate in quality improvement Seek feedback from others and evaluate own performance. ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES Ensuring that accurate documentation and records are kept contemporaneously. TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSBILITIES The post will educate others to develop and enhance their clinical skills. Develop and participate formal and informal teaching programmes to educate and support staff within the Trust and multi-agency settings Identify and act on own training and development needs. Support and educate patients, relatives, carers. Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities. FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Authorising use of equipment or products. Budget responsibility in absence of Matron. RESEARCH & AUDIT To work with Clinical and Nursing Leads and other members of Developmental Paediatrics Service in relation to research and audit and publications.
