Sr. Applied Scientist, JP Seller Services
JP Seller Services is looking for a talented and passionate Senior Applied Scientist to build world-class statistical and machine learning models to solve long-term, ambiguous and challenging problems, while providing advisory support to help solve short-term business pain points. The role involves building novel economic/econometric models, machine learning systems, and high-impact experiments to elevate customer experience, product discovery and selection, delivery speed, and profitability models in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. The position requires collaboration with other scientists in JP and worldwide, Product Managers, and Software Developers. Our current project is launching a groundbreaking product in Japan. We place strong emphasis on continuous learning through internal mechanisms for our scientists to grow their expertise and keep up with the state of the art.
Key Job Responsibilities
1. Use statistical and machine learning techniques to articulate possible root cause analysis and create scalable solutions for business problems.
2. Work closely with other research scientists, machine learning experts, and economists in 3 countries to design and run experiments, research new algorithms, and find new ways to improve Customer (CX) Experience and Seller (SX) Experience and drive business growth.
3. Partner with technology and product leaders to solve business and technology problems.
4. Research and implement novel machine learning, statistical, and econometrics approaches to understand drivers, impacts, and key influences on growth dynamics.
5. Help build production systems that take inputs from multiple models and make decisions in real-time.
6. Automate feedback loops for algorithms in production.
7. Utilize Amazon systems and tools to effectively work with terabytes of data.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
1. PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience.
2. Experience programming in Java, C++, Python, or related language.
3. Experience with large-scale machine learning systems such as profiling and debugging and understanding of system performance and scalability.
4. Ability to develop prototypes by manipulating and analyzing complex, high-volume, high-dimensional data from varying sources.
5. Ability to manage and quantify improvement in customer experience or value for the business resulting from research outcomes.
6. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey rigorous mathematical concepts and considerations to non-experts.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Experience with modeling tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, TensorFlow, numpy, scipy, etc.
2. Experience with large-scale distributed systems such as Hadoop, Spark, etc.
3. Proven track record of production achievements in language, search, and personalization.
4. Publications in top-tier academic conferences and journals.
