Job Summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic, friendly and efficient person to join our team as a Ward Clerk in Chalkwell Ward at Southend Hospital. The working hours for the position will be 08:00 -16:30 Monday - Wednesday.
You will liaise with other departments and wards and offer effective support to the ward team to assist with the flow of patients within the hospital and in turn help reduce patient waiting times.
Teamwork is critical to maintaining the exceptional level of service that the administration function currently provides. The successful applicant will have a proactive attitude with the ability to remain calm, focused and organised. Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate at all levels both verbally and in written formats are essential.
Main duties of the job
1. To carry out proficient, professional reception service to all visitors, patients, and colleagues.
2. To carry out administrative and other mutually agreed duties to maintain the smooth running of the ward. These include:
1. Greeting and welcoming all persons entering the ward, checking identification of staff requiring access to patient information.
2. Answering the telephone correctly by adhering to the Trust's telephone protocol. To understand and give messages received to the appropriate person i.e. Ward Manager or nurse in charge.
3. Maintaining good communication and relationships with patients/carers, members of the MDT and nurses in consultation with Ward Manager.
