Production Shift Supervisor
Department: Operations
Location: Kidderminster
Reports To: Production Manager
Salary: £40,000 - £45,000
Shift Premium: £3.21 per hour
Shift Hours: 22:00 to 06:00
Team Size: 50 technicians
Latham & Bond HR are supporting our client, a tier-one automotive supplier, in recruiting for a Shift Supervisor. The role will involve managing and overseeing the night shift operations to ensure that production targets are met while also maintaining safety standards, lean practices, and the efficient management of a team of 50 technicians.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Work with production management to meet production plans and ensure smooth operations.
2. Lead and oversee a team of 50 technicians, ensuring alignment with KPIs, Lean practices, 5S, and safety regulations.
3. Handle people management tasks, including performance, absence, and timekeeping, in collaboration with Human Resources.
4. Drive continuous improvement initiatives through KPI tracking, CCARs, scorecards, and workgroup boards.
5. Ensure manning levels and skills meet business needs, including controlling holidays.
6. Report machine and equipment malfunctions to support departments.
7. Work closely with team leaders and support departments to maintain machines and dies according to the TPM schedule.
8. Uphold a World Class 5S ethic within all teams.
9. Ensure finished products meet customer requirements and are delivered on time.
Team Structure:
1. 4 team leaders and 2 machine team leaders will oversee operations after 5 pm.
2. You will report directly to the Production Manager.
Shifts:
1. Available shifts: 4 pm – midnight or 2 pm – 10 pm.
Skills and Attributes:
1. Hard-working, self-motivated, and able to take on whatever duties are required.
2. Attentive to detail and follows procedures.
3. Strong communication skills, including delivering team briefs.
4. Computer literate.
5. Honest, reliable, and self-driven.
Qualifications and Experience Levels:
1. Prior experience in a supervisory role in a manufacturing environment.
2. Previous exposure to operations such as forge and casting is ideal, though not essential; an experienced ops person can learn on the job.
3. Experience in problem-solving and root-cause analysis.
4. An FLT license is advantageous.
5. Willingness to undertake further training.
Work Environment and Conditions:
1. Night shift with no management on site after 5 pm; team leaders will oversee operations.
2. Shop-floor oriented role.
