East Staffordshire Borough Council is committed to creating a safer, greener environment for those within the Borough and is looking to recruit an additional Community and Civil Enforcement Officer.
Community & Civil Enforcement are present in the community focusing on the quality of the local environment, particularly in relation to parking, dog control, litter, waste enforcement and anti-social behaviour.
The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Community & Civil Enforcement team who patrol the Borough on foot to deal with a variety of duties from environmental crime and anti-social behaviour to parking.
The team investigate matters such as fly-tipping, littering, parking, abandoned vehicles and recycling and work closely with others gathering evidence. The role includes issuing penalty charge notices for parking offences and fixed penalty notices for littering, fly-tipping and dog control offences as well as organising team initiatives focusing on areas of concern. The role encompasses working autonomously so decision making and prioritisation of workload are essential.
Key Requirements
The successful candidate should have:
1. Experience of working in a local authority enforcement environment (or similar);
2. Experience of working with residents, community groups and the public as well as managing complaint investigation and resolution;
3. The ability to accurately record information for reports and witness statements as Officers are required to gather intelligence and prepare evidence for court cases and on occasion attend court to give evidence on prosecutions.
In addition, you should be self-motivated to work both autonomously and as part of a team. You should also be able to demonstrate an ability to give advice and assistance to members of the public, businesses, other members of staff/service, stakeholders, other agencies and public bodies including giving school education on topics related to the role.
Skills and Experience
You should ideally possess:
1. GCSE Grade C or equivalent in Maths and English;
2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with negotiation and conflict management skills;
3. The ability to multi-task across a range of disciplines.
Additional Information
Hours of work: 37 hours per week on a rota basis which provides comprehensive coverage between the hours of 07:00 and 19:00 Monday-Friday and 08:00-16:30 Saturday-Sunday. This will include Bank Holidays, and the period between Christmas and the New Year.
