About this opportunity
Cumberland Council seeks an experienced leader to transform our waste management and public space operations.
As Assistant Director of Waste Management and Public Space, you will drive environmental sustainability, enhance operational efficiency, develop a more commercial approach across our team and oversee strategic initiatives, including policy development, stakeholder engagement, and the implementation of a new service delivery model.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead waste and public space operations, ensuring compliance with legislation, developing commercial opportunities and driving service improvements across our urban and rural areas.
* Oversee the county-wide, long term, Waste Disposal contract, optimising services and managing budgets.
* Develop and implement strategies, policies, and systems to meet Council priorities.
* Demonstrate effective leadership, empower staff, foster innovation, and ensure customer-focused service delivery.
* Build strong relationships with stakeholders to drive community-driven solutions.
* Manage risk, business continuity, and crisis response.
Required Experience and Skills
* Extensive experience in waste management and public space services.
* Proven leadership in strategy development and service delivery.
* Strong knowledge of relevant regulations and emerging trends.
* Exceptional stakeholder management and political acumen.
* Strong financial management and commercial skills.
