We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic analyst to join us within the Rail Analysis division - a talented, friendly, and supportive multi-disciplinary division of around 65 analysts (economists, social researchers, statisticians and transport modellers) spread across offices in London, Birmingham and Leeds.
This post sits in the Strategy and Services Analysis (SSA) team. Our team is responsible for providing analytical advice to support priority policy decisions to help shape the future delivery of the railways.
In this role, you will have a fantastic opportunity to work with a diverse range of stakeholders, and lead analysis on key topics to influence rail policy ensuring that decisions taken are informed by a strong evidence base and robust analysis. You will lead a team effectively to provide quantitative analytical support to a range of internal colleagues within the division and across the Department, the Great British Railways Transition Team and other external stakeholders. You will be responsible for development of individuals and the team, promoting the work of the team, supporting the delivery of analysis and helping prioritise where needed. The role is very outward facing, and the ability to form and maintain trusted relationships will be key to successful delivery.
Responsibilities
You will:
* Lead a wide range of analysis including sophisticated quantitative modelling and economic evidence within Strategy and Services Analysis (SSA), focussing on either passenger services analysis or developing innovative new strategic analysis depending on the candidate;
* Deliver robust and timely analysis on rail’s Annual Business Planning process, including costs and revenues. Alternatively, analyse the rail system to inform the Long-Term Rail Strategy and it’s contribution to government missions alongside an integrated national transport strategy;
* Collaborate to provide impactful analysis for future annual business planning rounds, spending reviews and other RDEL decisions. Alternatively, collaborate to provide impactful analysis for future publications related to rail’s long-term strategy;
* Deliver novel economic analysis of the passenger rail subsidy, Open Access passenger rail service applications, or deliver evidence to inform the strategic direction of rail;
* Build strong working relationships with a range of stakeholders, collaborating effectively across Rail Analysis; and
* Play an active corporate role within SSA, Rail Analysis and the broader Department.
