Summary of the Role:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to join our team as the Head of Service. In this role, you will work closely with the ADCS to develop and enhance our safeguarding, learning, and quality services, ensuring a cohesive and connected approach for children and families. You will be responsible for managing key areas including Safeguarding, Quality Assurance, Independent Reviewing Officers, Local Authority Designated Officer, and Learning functions. As the Principal Social Worker, you will ensure that the voices of children in need of help and protection are heard and supported, and that best practices are embedded across the organisation.
About the Role as the Head of Child Safeguarding / QA:
1. Develop high-quality services for children, ensuring clear and deliberate decision-making in social work practice.
2. Provide consistent management oversight to ensure timely and effective social work.
3. Line manage managers responsible for various safeguarding and quality functions.
4. Lead practice improvement initiatives across the organisation.
5. Foster connections with other directorates, the broader council, and external partners.
6. Manage performance in line with the council’s performance management framework, including budget oversight.
7. Support the ADCS in delivering continuous improvement and high-quality services.
Your Required Experience as Head of Child Safeguarding / QA:
1. Professional qualification in Social Work.
2. Demonstrable experience at Head of Service level.
3. Experience of working with a council at Good ILACS standard or involvement in an improved ILACS result.
4. Background in Safeguarding / QA, working in roles you would oversee such as IRO, CP Chair, LADO, QA Manager, Partnership Manager etc.
