Your timetable for the year will be provided by the university and will demonstrate all the relevant information needed to complete your course. It will also include your clinical days/periods so you can not only gain knowledge about health visitingin our services but which is enhanced by our clinical staff who will support you in gaining the experience and knowledge to enhance your clinical skills. You will also have details of all the required assessments for the year. You will start off as supernumerary, observing your supervisor and other members of the team, but will gradually build up your skills inorder to do the work which health visitors do independently. As a student health visitor, you will be involved in the Healthy Child Programme including the 5 mandated areas, this will be achieved through group work, developmental reviews, health promotion sessions. These may be face-face or virtual but you will be supported throughout in order to gain the confidenceneeded to support families.You will also gain knowledge and experience in safeguarding and child protection which is another important part of our role. We have recently introduced Maternal Early Childhood Sustained Home Visiting Service (MECSH) which will further support our families especially those who are vulnerable.
