Neonatal Clinic and Continuing Care Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced neonatal nurse to join the Continuing Care Team at Jessop Wing Neonatal Unit, based mainly within our Neonatal Follow-up clinic providing continuing care for babies and their families who return to clinics. You will also support the Community team where needed.
Based in the Neonatal Clinic and the families' home setting, you will provide nursing care and advice regarding the ongoing care of babies who have been cared for within the Neonatal Service.
Main duties of the job
To provide safe and effective care to babies born before 34 weeks gestation, babies who have spent more than 21 days in hospital on the Neonatal Unit, babies who are less than 2 kg at discharge, and babies who have been discharged from neonatal care.
The post holder will be part of a dedicated, professional team, providing safe and effective care to babies and their families within neonatal follow-up clinic and home environment.
The post holder will provide ongoing care and advice to babies and families who have a variety of specialist needs, from complications caused by prematurity to babies with complex care needs.
The nurse will support families returning for follow-up appointments and vaccinations.
The post holder will carry out blood sampling and assist with consumables and medications in the patient's home and clinic.
The post holder will have use of their own car, ensure insurance which covers business use, and have no more than 3 penalty points (mileage is paid via E-expenses when registered and claimed monthly).

The Directorate of Obstetrics, Gynaecology, and Neonatology is based at the Jessop Wing, which is linked to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. The maternity unit has over 6800 births per year and is a Regional Tertiary Maternity Service with a Level 3 Neonatal Unit of 44 cots. A tertiary Gynae-Oncology service and a changing Gynaecology Service, which includes an Assisted Conception Unit, complete the services within the Directorate.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered nurse (valid with NMC)
* Advanced Diploma Nursing Studies or equivalent
* Neonatal QIS Foundation or equivalent (Community or Transitional Care course)
* Neonatal Life Support or Paediatric Life Support
* Qualified in specialty Neonatal module or equivalent
* FINE developmental care course or equivalent
Experience
* Evidence of ability to work as a sole registrant in a small team
* Significant experience in neonatal care at staff nurse level
* Leadership and parent teaching experience
* Completion of the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998 or willingness to complete
Further Training
* Experience of safeguarding neonatal families and babies
* Experience of working with a multi-professional team
* Community/Transitional Care Course, Professional Nurse Advocate
* Effective communicator, ability to participate in education of others, assertiveness, role model for non-registered support staff and students
* Able to work as a lone worker in the clinic or community, aware of escalation process for concerns
Other Factors
* Current UK driving licence with no more than 3 points; proven good record of attendance and timekeeping
* Ability to work flexibly to meet needs of the service
* Highly motivated, compassionate leader and patient-centred
