The Senior Clinical Fellow - General Medical Specialities role provides opportunities for you to gain experience and develop their skills throughout General Medical Specialities. This will be acheived through building upon on your existing basic and specialty training while supporting our key service areas in relation to the provision of in and out of hours clinical care by a trained medical workforce.
You can therefore expect in addition to gaining specialty ward and clinic/procedural-based experience and development to contribute to our on-call medical rotas.
All posts will offer you experience in General Internal Medicine and exposure to Elderly Care medicine in different areas (Emergency department, medical admissions, Acute Frailty, Hospital wards, and Intermediate Care settings]. Candidates will also contribute to the acute medical take at ST3+ level. We are happy to accommodate any extra/additional speciality experience required by you i.e. placements in other specialities within Medicine.
Your work will be as part of a multidisciplinary team under consultant supervision with a team of doctors of varying levels. They will be placed on General Medical and Elderly Care ward and may also rotate between Acute Frailty and the longer-stay wards. Candidates will also gain experience in an Ambulatory Frailty Unit and other sub-specialty areas in addition to being involved in the un-selected General Medical take.
Your role will involve :
Working under a consultant ward-based team model
Responsibility for continuity of care for patients on the ward and overseeing junior doctors on the ward
Participating in ward rounds and documenting in the medical notes.
Participating in Multidisciplinary Board Rounds and leading where appropriate.
Supporting junior doctors to perform basic medical procedures.
Liaising with relatives and leading discussions around medical treatment, ceiling of care, and prognosis.
Attending/supporting Outpatient clinics within the department.
Attendance at weekly departmental lunchtime meetings and Grand round presentations
Involvement in departmental audits and QI work.
Managing the medical take when on-call. This includes accepting medical referrals, reviewing unwell patients, liaising with other specialities, clerking, and examining new admissions.
