Energy Manager
Do you have demonstrable experience in driving forward energy efficiency for large or complex estate portfolios? Could you ensure the effective management of energy resources across the Science Museum Group estate?
About us
The Science Museum Group (SMG) is the largest and most complex museum estate in the country which also houses a scientific collection of international significance. The SMG Estate team has responsibility for ensuring that all sites meet their legislative and operational requirements, are consistently well maintained, efficiently run and capable of delivering an excellent experience to staff, volunteers and visitors.
'Resilience' and 'Sustainability' are two of SMG's strategic objectives which link directly to the estate. A new, 10-year estate strategy has also been approved in 2024 which sets out four key areas of development. These are designed to ensure our portfolio of estate assets are; professionally managed, efficiently operated, intelligently controlled and sustainable, both financially and environmentally.
We are recruiting for an Energy Manager to join on a full-time basis, working 35 hours per week, on a fixed-term contract until April 2026. This role can be based at any of the following SMG sites (with hybrid working available): National Railway Museum in York, Science and Industry Museum in Manchester, National Science and Media Museum in Bradford, Science Museum in London or the Science and Innovation Park in Wroughton, Swindon.
About the role
As Energy Manager you will oversee energy auditing and savings initiatives, energy management and energy reporting. You will ensure the effective management of energy resources to meet organisational objectives and targets, whilst also identifying, developing and implementing new energy-related opportunities for savings.
You will conduct energy surveys to accurately capture the performance of estate assets and analyse data to find opportunities to improve energy efficiency, benchmarking data against industry standards. In addition to reporting on the usage of utilities per site and at appropriate intervals.
You will promote energy efficiency and provide advice and support for the development of energy-efficient practices across the estate, with your work contributing to the organisation's Net Zero 2033 target and our wider strategy. This includes producing and presenting monthly, quarterly and annual reporting of utilities, waste and contributing to carbon emissions calculations for these emissions sources.
About you
Joining us, you will have demonstrable experience in driving forward energy efficiency for large or complex estate portfolios, with extensive knowledge of the techniques and technologies which support the efficient use of energy.
Crucially, you will have working knowledge of BMS (Building Management Systems) including the capture and analysis of energy and utilities data. You will be able to work well as part of a team and demonstrate effective leadership, influencing and communication skills, with a proven ability to work effectively with internal stakeholders, subject specialists and external consultants or contractors.
Don't feel you meet all the criteria? We welcome you to apply even if your experience doesn't match directly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this, or other opportunities that we have.
