Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint 2 full time core trainees in general surgery commencing Wednesday 5thFebruary 2025, for 6 months.
The core trainee posts in surgery are an exciting opportunity, and are aimed at prospective candidates who have completed the Foundation or Core Surgical Training programmes and/or those who are preparing to apply for specialist training programmes (either core or higher specialist training). They represent an opportunity to improve clinical skills, develop teaching skills and strengthen your curriculum vitae. .
The persons appointed will be based at the Royal Liverpool Hospital. These posts have a commitment to general surgery and urology on call at Core Surgical Trainee level. More information on the specific roles and responsibilities of the post are provided within section 3 of this job description.
Applicants are required to be fully registered with the General Medical Council with a licence to practice.
The aim of these posts is to provide the successful applicant with a tailored clinical post, whilst allowing them to develop their portfolio. The posts are to commence from 5thFebruary 2025 to 5thAugust 2025.
There are two clinical posts one in colorectal surgery and another in HPB surgery. Each post will have a supervising consultant who will help develop a tailored clinical timetable depending on an applicant’s clinical experience and training needs. You will have exposure in outpatient clinics, operating theatres, ward rounds and MDT meetings.
The posts come with providing support to delivering bedside and tutorial based teaching, providing mentorship and supervision of medical students.
The appointees will take part in the general surgery on-call rota including night shifts and weekends, where applicable the post holder may be required to deputise for absent colleagues from time to time and to perform additional duties in emergencies and unforeseen circumstances. The post holder will be required to be available exceptionally for such irregular commitments outside normal rostered duties as are essential for continuity of patient care.
The post holder will be expected to keep themselves up to date with current knowledge & practice, to attend clinical meetings within the department & to participate in audit & “in-service” training of other healthcare professionals.
