Are you looking for a marine-based role where you can make a real difference by ensuring standards in the fishing industry?
We are looking for three Operations Officers to join our Marine Operations offices in Lerwick, Scrabster and Kinlochbervie, helping us to ensure Scottish law and International Fisheries Regulations are upheld.
As an Operations Officer, you will undertake inspections of documentation, equipment and catches and provide guidance, advice and information to fishing industry contacts. You will work as part of a team to investigate compliance of Marine Licensing Regulations, ensuring quality standards and protecting Scotland’s marine environment.
Responsibilities
1. Conduct inspections at onshore factories, on board fishing vessels in harbour, at fish buyers / sellers and in vehicles used to transport fisheries products.
2. Inspect documentation, fishing gear and/or catches for compliance with conservation, quota management and marketing regulations.
3. Analyse Masters’ electronic logbooks and vessel transmissions via Vessel Monitoring Systems.
4. Investigate offences against Scottish, UK, EU and International Fisheries Regulations, compiling and submitting prosecution reports to The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service.
5. Participate in investigations of breaches of Marine Licensing Regulations working with a variety of partner organisations.
6. Conduct audit exercises to ensure industry compliance with grant application conditions.
7. Provide expert guidance and advice to fishing industry contacts and stakeholders.

8. A sound knowledge and understanding of the Scottish Fishing and Marine Industries, including the main fisheries and sectors.
9. Excellent organisational skills to manage a varied workload and to meet targets in a flexible manner so to progress tasks with minimal supervision.
10. Ability to communicate effectively to colleagues and to a wide range of contacts, demonstrating sound judgement and reliability under pressure, and accepting responsibility for subsequent outcomes.

WORKING PATTERN
Our standard hours are 37 hours per week, reducing to 35 hours per week for all staff on 1 October 2024. Inspections are carried out in line with operations of the industry and officers are expected to undertake some of their duties during unsocial hours or at weekends.
FLEXIBLE WORKING ALLOWANCE
Officers will qualify for flexible working allowance at all locations which is currently £4183.40 per year, paid monthly. These offices work a rota system with hours rostered between 0700 and 2300 set two weeks in advance.
