Mental Health of Learning Disabilities Nurse
1 Full time position for East
Qualifications: RNLD and/or RMN.
Main duties of the job
Job Purpose:
To work as a specialist nurse within the MHLD team. The post holder will work with people with a learning disability whose care requires co-ordination under the Care Programme Approach due to complex needs. Where appropriate clinical liaison and support for people on non-CPA pathway will also be required.
The post holder will support the development of mainstream clinicians skills in assessing and treating mental illness in people with Learning Disability.
The post holder will be responsible for maintaining joint working practices between MHLD, in-patient, mainstream community mental health services and CLTD.
The post holder will work preventatively and supportively with people with a learning disability and mental health problems so that they enjoy a quality of life and maintain their place in the community. The role will require working closely with our main stakeholders to provide an enhanced package of care which will support the management of mental health issues in a way which avoids the need for in-patient admission and prevents placement breakdown.
The post holder must hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car/vehicle to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).

Job responsibilities
Job Dimensions:
1. Operate as a Specialist Nurse for CPA level clients (and where appropriate non-CPA level clients) with complex and diverse needs.
2. Undertake comprehensive assessments, developing and reviewing care-plans.
3. Manage and ensure the provision of appropriate medical and psychosocial interventions to a caseload of service users with learning disabilities who experience mental health problems.
4. Ensure information systems and client records are effectively maintained in accordance with the Trusts policy.
5. Ensure that the views of the service users and carers are sought and incorporated into treatment plans.
6. Participate in crisis intervention and provide clinical cover for team members in their absence.
7. Liaise with crisis and inpatient services as required.
8. Ensure effective verbal and written communication with all staff, service users and carers.
9. Participate in Mental Health Act Assessments of service users that you care coordinate.
10. Actively participate in and contribute to team meetings.
11. Maintain an awareness of legislation, directorate and corporate policies and procedures.
12. Develop partnerships and participate in working with TPLDs, Acute Services, and Private Sector, Voluntary Agencies, and carers.
13. Abide by the Code of Conduct pertaining to your own profession.
14. Keep abreast of all developments pertaining to the provision of mental health of learning disability.
Person Specification
Registration
* Qualification - LD / MH Registered Nurse with current NMC Registration
LD / MH Registered Nurse with LD experience
* Experience working with LD is essential
* Experience of providing thorough baseline assessments and case formulation
* Good interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively with service users, carers and colleagues
* A working knowledge of mental disorders, treatment options and approaches, and assessment frameworks
* Community Evidence of post registration training related to the provision of mental health of learning disabilities or other evidenced based therapies.
* At least two year's post-qualification practice in Mental Health
* Experience of working in a community setting and the ability to undertake home visits/attend various clinical sites as required
* Up-to-date knowledge of research of MHLD
