Job Title: Assistant Professor in German/ English Interpreting and Translation

Purpose of the Role:
The new staff member will contribute primarily to teaching German Translation and Interpreting courses at various levels.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
* Undertake teaching and assessment duties on academic programmes.
* Develop relevant materials in appropriate formats for the above programmes.
* Mentor and supervise students, including PhD students, providing effective feedback.
* Develop the level of subject expertise in line with latest development in research.
* Build and conduct research in one or more of the School's research areas.
* Develop and maintain strong links with business and industry.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues and external networks.
* Undertake a proactive role in promoting and marketing the University.
* Undertake leadership and administrative tasks associated with programme planning.
* Participate in continuous professional development (CPD).
Education, Qualifications & Experience:
Essential:
* A PhD in a relevant field or near completion.
* Educated to SCQF Level 11 or equivalent experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
* English as their first language with German at near-native/C2 level.
* Experience in teaching and assessing German interpreting/translation at university level.
* A developing programme of research that complements the department's strengths.
* Evidence of the ability to deliver excellent teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
* Experience of working within a similar environment.
* Competent in the use of relevant IT packages.
* Well-developed interpersonal skills.
* Demonstrable professional and proactive approach.
Desirable:
* Experience in other areas of LINCS teaching.
* Professional experience of interpreting and/or translation.
* Post-doctoral research experience in a relevant field.
* Published or forthcoming research publications in relevant academic journals.
* A further language taught in LINCS at near-native/C2 level.
