This a permanent specialist doctor post for candidates with interest in glaucoma. Applicants will be expected to have broad general Ophthalmology experience with proven track record of glaucoma experience. They will join a very busy department with a comprehensive Glaucoma Service. The successful candidate will work with a team of 3 Consultants, one Associate Specialist, one fellow. Glaucoma team is supported by a comprehensive team of glaucoma practitioners, nurse specialists, photographers and technicians. UK candidates as well as overseas candidates will be considered for this job. The successful candidate will perform specialised glaucoma clinics at the RVI as well as peripheral clinics and independent cataract surgery lists, and glaucoma surgery lists depending on experience. An interest in research and audit is encouraged.
Main duties of the job
The job is aimed at supporting the department in dealing with Glaucoma backlogs and high number of glaucoma patients. It is also aimed at supporting the Imaging Hub and the comprehensive Glaucoma team across RVI, CAV and Cramlington clinics.

Clinical:
Glaucoma clinics are split between RVI and Cramlington centre offering exposure to a wide range of glaucoma pathology cases. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake glaucoma laser clinics as well as glaucoma theatre lists, routine and complex cataract surgery cases, as well as glaucoma surgery cases depending on experience.
Administrative:
Managing clinics and glaucoma referrals in close collaboration with secretarial team
Research:
To participate in research projects in the department
Teaching:
To participate in teaching resident doctors and junior colleagues
Person Specification
Education, Qualifications and Specialist Skills
Essential
1. Primary Medical Qualification.
2. At least four years' postgraduate training, at least two years of which is in a relevant specialty.
Desirable
3. Higher Degree.
4. Special skills training in the specialty.
Clinical Experience
Essential
5. Evidence of experience in the specialty.
6. Evidence of a substantial commitment to the specialty.
7. Ability to offer an expert clinical opinion within the speciality.
8. Ability to take independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients referred to a tertiary centre.
Management and Administration Experience
