We are looking to appoint two experienced and highly skilled piano teacher/s to work across two sites at Durham Cathedral Schools Foundation, ideally to start in the summer term 2025. DCSF occupies two historical sites 10 mins walking distance apart in central Durham. Candidates need to be able to offer between 12 & 30 hours per week, but actual hours will be negotiable. These roles would suit those who have the ability and experience to teach all ages from beginner to advanced (grade 8 +). DCSF educates the Durham Cathedral Choristers and musical expectations and outcomes are high. For the right candidates there will also be the opportunity to be involved in accompaniment and coaching sessions for instrumentalists and singers as pupils prepare for performances, examinations and competitions.
Information about the school:
At Chorister School, children can begin piano lessons after a successful taster lesson from around Year 1, and most children in Year 2 learn piano. Currently 88% of junior school pupils take at least one music lesson and we have a flourishing musical environment, with 18 VMTs including 5 piano teachers. Our Chorister School Music Department motto is Inclusion & Excellence, and we work hard to support pupils with well-attended motivating and supportive practice sessions scheduled between 3-5 times per day. Students moving on to Durham School from Y7 continue to receive instrumental lessons on a range of instruments, with piano being particularly popular. Lessons are currently given by a large department consisting of 9 piano teachers. ABRSM examination results are high, with many students achieving distinction at all grades. Exam sessions are busy every term. The departments, VMTs, parents and wider school community work closely to support the children and there are a huge range of performance opportunities throughout the year.
Application process:
Interested candidates should submit an up-to-date CV and letter of application outlining skills and experience, together with the names and details of two referees.
Shortlisted candidates will be required to teach two 20 min lessons: to a beginner/intermediate and an advanced student and will also be required to perform two contrasting pieces of their choice. Interviews will be with the Directors of Music of Chorister School and Durham School.
Deadline: 9:00am Monday 10th March with interviews likely to be held on Monday 17th March.
