Paediatric Oncology Deputy Clinical Nurse Specialist

The Post holder will work 28 hours a week - this will be worked over 4 days.
The post holder will be required to work effectively, both as an independent practitioner and as a member of a paediatric oncology multi-disciplinary team.
The post holder will be expected to provide skilled, excellent, specialist oncology nursing care and advice. The post holder will empower the child and their carers throughout the duration of their cancer treatment. The post holder will be competent and confident in delivering care to the child/young person. The post holder will be required to liaise effectively with primary treatment centres and other health care teams and act as a resource to other health professionals.
The post holder will help to ensure that the training and competence of ward staff, day unit staff and community nursing teams is upheld in relation to the care of children and young people with cancer.

Job responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
1. To ensure clinical skills are up to date to provide evidence based, competent care for children and young people with cancer.
2. Along with the POSCU Lead Nurse, review all paediatric oncology inpatients daily, providing support to the child and family.
3. To provide advice and support to nursing and medical staff.
4. To assist with the weekly oral chemotherapy dose adjustment telephone clinic.
5. To assist in the delivery and administration of Intravenous bolus chemotherapy.
6. To complete and communicate relevant information regarding newly referred patients to the cancer services team.
7. To assist in collating information and carrying out audits to present at the trust clinical audit meeting.
8. To participate in home visits, where needed, to complete a holistic needs assessment and at the start and end of treatment, to explain the POSCU service and provide the child/young person with the POSCU information booklet.
Person Specification
CLINICAL SKILLS
* Trained in administration of SACT.
* Can drive.
Experience
* Have at least 2 years of experience caring for children with cancer.
