About Us
The Happier Lives Institute (HLI) conducts and promotes research into the best ways to improve global happiness. We are preparing for a major opportunity. We have landmark research (into how much happiness charities create with money) appearing shortly in the World Happiness Report and we are planning a campaign around it. We have marketing capacity for this and we are looking for an experienced Fundraising Consultant to help us design and execute a high-impact fundraising strategy to capitalize on the opportunity.
This is a flexible, part-time contract role (estimated 10-15 hours per week) with the potential for an extended engagement based on performance and fundraising outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
1. Develop a fundraising strategy tailored to HLI’s unique position, including individual giving, major donors, and institutional funders.
2. Identify and prioritize funding opportunities, ensuring a balanced approach across different donor segments, fundraising for both HLI itself, and HLI’s recommended charities.
3. Craft compelling messaging for donor outreach, ensuring alignment with HLI’s mission.
4. Advise on high-value donor cultivation, including outreach strategies for major donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
5. Develop a stewardship plan to nurture relationships with existing and prospective donors.
6. Assist in optimizing a campaign for HLI recommended charities to maximize donations over time, especially following World Happiness Day (March 20).
7. Provide guidance on effective appeals, donor communications, and storytelling to enhance engagement.
8. Help ensure donation processes are optimized, advising on and implementing systems and tools (CRM, donor tracking, analytics, email automations) to improve fundraising efficiency.
9. Integrate fundraising into marketing with input to PR and social media plans.
10. Equip the HLI team with best practices in fundraising and documented processes, ensuring long-term sustainability.
11. Provide recommendations for ongoing donor cultivation beyond the campaign.
