York Minster, one of the most iconic landmarks in the North of England, seeks a dynamic and strategic individual as their Director of Operations and Engagement. In this pivotal position, you'll play a key strategic role on the Senior Executive Team, leading the Stakeholder and Audience Engagement teams to ensure exceptional experiences for all visitors and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders. You will collaborate across the Minster to achieve the Vision, while developing new income streams to support long-term resilience and the Ministry With over 200 members of staff and 400 volunteers the Minster welcomes over 150,000 worshippers, they are a leading tourist destination attracting 600,000 visitors annually. Having developed a clear vision and strategy taking them through to 2030 and beyond, they are undergoing a number of £ multi-million investment projects. Key Responsibilities With four direct reports and a wider team of 60 across Audience Operations, Events and Audience Engagement, Marketing & Communications and Retail teams, the Director of Operations & Engagement will be responsible for; Guiding and managing the Stakeholder and Audience Engagement teams, ensuring every visitor receives a world-class welcome and exceptional experience. Developing and implementing a stakeholder strategy to nurture and manage relationships that support York Minster's Vision. Actively contributing to the Senior Executive Team, championing audience needs and strategically supporting York Minster’s goals. Driving the commercial growth of the department by maximizing existing and creating new income streams, while managing the annual budget. Set and review ticket prices, ensuring value for money and a strong visitor experience, and oversee the CRM ticketing system for optimal use of audience data. Ensuring that operations are data-driven and supported by well-trained staff to deliver a first-class and safe visitor experience. Delegate roles, set objectives, conduct appraisals, and promote efficiency, collaboration, and personal development within the team. Key Requirements Substantial experience in leading and developing people, managing teams, and implementing performance management and disciplinary procedures within complex organizations. Extensive knowledge and experience in delivering world-class service in visitor-facing institutions, ensuring an exceptional experience for all visitors. Proven track record in handling profit and loss budgets, including ticket pricing and occupancy targets, as well as managing operational and project budgets with procurement and monitoring requirements. Significant experience in developing new income streams in a commercial context and managing CRM systems, using the data to inform business decisions. Demonstrable experience in leading or coordinating the work of volunteers, ensuring effective engagement and support.
