About the role
The University of Leicester is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Centre Manager to lead the operations of the newly established British Heart Foundation (BHF) Research Excellence Centre. This prestigious Centre, under the leadership of Professor Andre Ng, has been awarded £3 million over five years to advance our world-leading cardiovascular research across three primary themes: ‘Discovery,’ ‘Interventions,’ and ‘Populations.’
As the Centre Manager, you will play a crucial role in the setup and ongoing management of the Centre, ensuring the smooth delivery of the Research Excellence Award. You will be an integral part of the senior leadership team, contributing to the strategic development, business planning, and financial management of the Centre. Your responsibilities will include overseeing the recruitment process, managing budgets, organising seminars and symposiums, and coordinating activities with other BHF Centres of Research Excellence.
In this role, you will also act as an ambassador for the Centre, fostering strong relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders to support the Centre’s growth and success.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will need a degree or equivalent qualification, with evidence of formal postgraduate courses and ongoing professional development. You should have significant experience in project management, particularly within a research environment, and a proven track record of managing staff, systems, and procedures.
Your ability to lead large-scale research initiatives, manage complex budgets, and provide high-level administrative support will be essential. Strong communication skills are crucial, as you will need to work effectively with a wide variety of individuals and professional groups. You should also be able to analyse complex information and develop comprehensive reports.
Experience in a research setting, particularly in a Centre or institute, is highly desirable, as is a Project Management Qualification such as PRINCE 2. A keen understanding of Clinical Governance Requirements and the ability to navigate these within the Centre’s operations will also be advantageous.
If you are a proactive, detail-oriented professional with a passion for supporting cutting-edge research in cardiovascular sciences, we encourage you to apply for this exciting opportunity.
