Job Purpose:
With a large investment into our big data platform (AWS, Databricks) and a huge amount of interesting data, this is the chance for you to come and be part of an exciting transformation in the way we store, analyze, and use data in a fast-paced organisation. You will join as a Data Technical Architect providing technical leadership to a data engineering team. You will play a major role in adhering to big data best practices while building and maintaining reliable data pipelines and products across a range of exciting projects. This role will support the business on the journey to a mature data-led organisation.
Job Accountabilities:
1. Providing technical data solutions including design and development of logical and physical data models and databases for business solutions.
2. Providing technical expertise and guidance to development teams (both easyJet and third parties) around solution/system design and coding, ensuring standards are consistently upheld and quality practices are embedded early within delivery teams.
3. Lead the Data Engineering board by building and where necessary redefining patterns and standards for the data engineering teams.
4. Develop robust data pipelines to serve the easyJet analyst and data science community.
5. Work with other Technical Architects to propose new technical solutions and lead the POC activities for these solutions.
6. Ensure best practices and patterns are followed and any technical debt is flagged.
7. Set and govern non-functional requirements for solutions/systems ensuring that the delivery teams meet set standards around performance, security, code maintainability, and supportability.
8. Work with the easyJet Technical Design Authority to ensure that designs receive appropriate and timely governance.
9. Maintain and enhance documentation around current state Data Architecture.
10. Recommend and lead improvements to existing software, tools, and processes; particularly driving remediation activities.
11. Build a documentation library for all data pipelines and data catalogue.
12. Collaborate with external parties, suppliers, and internal members of the IT team and business units to research, define, and document the architecture solution and high-level designs for projects and initiatives in the data domain.
13. Work in a fast-paced agile scrum environment with a release within sprint mentality, supporting scrum ceremonies.
14. Work with a mixed team of onshore and offshore resources.
Key Skills Required:
1. Experience with a combination of cloud-based big data technologies (e.g. HDFS, Blob Storage, Spark, Kafka, Delta, Hive, Airflow, and DBT) and OLTP and Data Warehousing – within SQL Server or other RDBMS’s.
2. Familiarity with Lake House Architecture and Databricks.
3. Extensive data modeling experience from conceptual to logical models.
4. Up-to-date knowledge of data and analytical technical domains.
5. Good understanding of software best practices, including design principles & patterns, security, and performance.
6. Experience in presenting solutions at architecture boards.
7. Stakeholder management skills at the leadership level.
8. Ability to explain complex technical information in business terms.
9. Knowledge of analysis and development techniques e.g. SCRUM, Agile & Waterfall.
