Special Constable - HC614077
Location - Hampshire
Hours: Minimum 16 hours per month
Policing is a career like no other. Our police officers, police staff and volunteers show courage, teamwork and compassion on a daily basis to make a real difference to people’s lives in the communities they serve. We look for all kinds of skills, because we know it takes all kinds of people to protect the public. Problem solving, compassion, resilience, respect, courage and teamwork. These are the qualities we are looking for, and if you think you might have the skills to serve why not apply?
As a Special Constable, you will work closely with regular officers to police local communities. You would have the same powers and wear the same uniform as a regular police officer; be given proper training for the role and gain a thorough grounding in many aspects of police work, before you are expected to carry out any police duties. Being a Special Constable is a challenging and rewarding role and we are looking for people who can empathise with others and listen to their needs.
As a Special Constable, you will take part in frontline police work either as a response & patrol or neighbourhoods officer. This could mean anything from keeping town centres safe at night, conducting house-to-house enquiries, helping prevent vulnerable members of the community from becoming victims of crime, patrolling in crime hotspots, or taking part in crime-prevention initiatives. It’s a role with the potential to send you home every shift with a tangible feeling of pride, knowing you’ve volunteered to make a real difference in the community you serve.
Being a Special Constable is a voluntary role. Special Constables are required to commit a minimum of 16 hours per month to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, this equates to 192 hours per year. These hours are usually worked alongside a regular shift.
Our benefits are extensive and include:
* Gym facilities at a number of our buildings.
* Access to Hampshire Police Leisure and Sport (providing a range of family and sporting activities).
* Access to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary’s wide range of wellbeing services
* Access to retail and hospitality discounts via a Blue light Card (subscription applies)
You also have the opportunity to be part of a large organisation with all the potential opportunity for development and progression that can bring. Many police officers start life in other police roles, which can provide vital experience, giving them the edge over other candidates.
This role is subject to satisfactory vetting clearance. While you don’t need any specific qualifications, it is important that you’re professional under pressure; able to work with others, assess information, consider options and make clear, justifiable decisions. You must meet our eligibility criteria and pass the assessment process.
As well as a medical examination, there is also a fitness test which you must pass (this will be repeated annually).
If you’ve got the skills and qualities we are looking for as a Special Constable, please follow this online application link to apply. Please note that you will not need to attach a CV or Covering letter to your application. Please disregard the prompt to attach these when applying.
