South Tyneside Catering Department require 7 food service assistants who have a flexible approach to work and work routines. Some weeks additional hours will be available for holiday cover etc. Please see below for shifts and hours. We require cover across 7 days per week to include weekend working. The successful candidate will be expected to be flexible in their approach to shifts and shift patterns. This post requires weekend working. Additional overtime hours are often available. Full training is provided.

1 x 20 HOURS flexible hours/shifts
1 X 9 HOURS (Saturday & Sunday 16.15-20.45)
1 x 8 HOURS Saturday 07.00-16.00
1 x 4.5 HOURS Saturday 16.15-20.45
Main duties of the job
1. To complete daily food service tasks to Trust locations.
2. To ensure the patient, staff and visitor meal service is provided in a safe, clean and hygienic environment.
3. Ensure high standards of cleanliness are met and maintained.
4. Ensure that all food supplies which are delivered are checked following the Food Safety Management System (FSMS).
5. To be flexible on a day to day basis moving area to area and across departments (within catering).
6. Deep cleaning.
7. Serving and taking cash in the restaurant & cafe.
8. Assist with food preparation as necessary and as requested.
9. Liaise with supervisors and managers.

Job responsibilities
1. To complete daily food service tasks to Trust locations.
2. To ensure the patient, staff and visitor meal service is provided in a safe, clean and hygienic environment.
3. Understand the International Dysphasia Diet Standardisation (IDDSI) descriptors which will assist the safe service to patients who require a modified diet.
4. Ensure that all food supplies which are delivered are checked following the Food Safety Management System (FSMS).
5. Record food temperatures as directed by the FSMS.
6. To be flexible on a day to day basis moving area to area and across departments (within catering).
7. Operate cash registers and card payment machines, complete cash declaration sheets.
8. Ensure stock rotation is followed.
9. Assist with food preparation as necessary and as requested.

Person Specification
Experience
* Good understanding of catering services.
* Catering Experience.
* Experience of working in a healthcare environment.
* Experience in production environment.
* Experience of cash/card payment handling.
* Previous experience in dealing with the public.
Qualifications
* Basic Numeracy and Literacy education.
* Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
Physical skills
* Combination of bending/lifting/standing and walking with frequent requirement for physical effort.
Skills and Knowledge
* Ability to accept and prioritise instructions.
* Previous knowledge of catering environment.
