The Communication Directorate provides end-to-end, integrated and multi-platform communication across the FCDO network. Job description As a member of the Sustainability Team, you will be responsible for managing and reporting all environmental performance as well as monitoring information. You will ensure the FCDO remains a leader within Government on all environmental and sustainability matters. The successful candidate will be responsible for working with Facilities Management Providers and Green Teams overseas. You will be required to monitor environmental data, implement sustainability projects and promote sustainability, ensuring knowledge and expertise is transferred across all in FCDO. As Sustainability Manager, you will be responsible for the management and evaluation of environmental performance information, working with and influencing stakeholders from across the organisation on all environmental related activities. You will develop regular internal communications and provide support to our overseas network on environmental issues. This role will suit people who are passionate about the environment, adept at establishing relationships and influencing others, creative in identifying new approaches and solutions and dynamic in putting these into action. Roles and Responsibilities The successful candidate will be responsible for: The verification and evaluation of environmental performance data, identification of trends, investigation of anomalies and developing strategies for performance improvement. Including monitoring, reviewing and auditing compliance with Environmental Management System (EMS). Accurate and timely reporting of environmental performance information to internal and external bodies, presenting data in an engaging and informative way. Establishing strong and effective networks across FCDO and other UK Government departments, ensuring we share, learn from and build on good practices and stay abreast of wider central Government sustainability guidance. Developing and implementing internal communications plan as part of Destination Zero campaign, to promote awareness of sustainability across the organisation and provide support to the overseas network on environmental issues, including blogs, events and presentations. Encouraging Corporate Services Managers and green teams to utilise sustainability data and sustainability plans to implement changes to improve sustainability performance. Contributing to development of environmental policies, reports to FCDO boards and Ministers, responses to Freedom of Information (FOI) and Parliamentary Question (PQ) requests in a timely and accurate manner. Acting as secretariat for the Sustainable Operations and Programme Board by developing agendas; drafting, commissioning and quality assuring papers; circulating papers to members; issuing accurate minutes; working with Communications Directorate to communicate decisions to the organisation; maintaining the action and decision tracker. Liaising with colleagues from across the organisation to identify and ensure the delivery of environmental sustainability projects across the network e.g. emissions reduction, energy efficiency and recycling. Identifying opportunities to promote sustainability and raise environmental awareness in relation to other estate initiatives and wider corporate and FCDO strategic objectives. Promoting sustainability and advising colleagues on sustainability issues and principles e.g. low emission vehicles, sustainable building standards ( BREEAM ). Minimum Criteria We are looking for someone with: Experience in Environmental Management, sustainable design in construction/estate operations. Experience of analysing and developing energy and carbon data. Awareness of Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and implementing ISO 14001. Understanding of UK Governments sustainability agenda, Greening Government Commitment and Defras 25 year environment strategy. Experience in building relationships with key stakeholders. Experience and resilience in managing multiple projects concurrently, with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
