Description of the duties
Within this role the post holder will:
1. Hold an appropriate caseload and key work.
2. Provide Specialist CAMHS assessments and therapeutic interventions to children, adolescents and their families who have been referred from external agencies, with severe, complex and enduring psychological, emotional and mental health difficulties.
3. Undertake assessments, including risk assessments, and contribute to care planning and deliver interventions in collaboration with children and young people.
4. Please note that although this is predominantly a 9-5 Monday to Friday role whilst in training depending on where the candidate is placed at the end of the training programme they may be expected to work extended hours including nights and weekends.
5. Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team offering evidence based interventions.
Key Performance Areas:
1. To work as a Community CAMHS Practitioner on the Psychological Therapies Practice Pathway (SFP); to deliver evidence-based family interventions, to promote recovery, appropriate in partnership with children, young people and families/carers.
2. To assess and decide on appropriate models of treatment, often involving highly complex issues and situations and thus requiring analysis, comparison and interpretation of a range of options.
3. To conduct risk assessments and provide risk management plans in line with the clinical risk policy; including safeguarding.
4. To regularly review and monitor outcome of assessment and effects of treatment in line with CYP-IAPT outcome monitoring.
5. To assess the needs of the individual children, young people and their families and work in partnership with them and manage a defined case load.
6. To undertake mental health assessments in a variety of settings including home, clinic, schools and acute settings and ensure appropriate treatment plans are initiated.
7. To provide therapeutic treatment packages including short or long term interventions.
8. To maintain confidentiality on all matters relating to the private affairs and treatment of clients, except in cases where the child’s safety and wellbeing would necessitate the sharing of information.
9. To work as a member of the multi-disciplinary CAMHS team in the promotion of mental health and general wellbeing of children, young people and their families.
10. To act as mentor for nursing students on placement within the service.
11. To be involved in teaching staff of all levels and to actively promote the service developments.
12. To engage in joint work with team members and external agencies.
13. To advise and offer consultation to other agencies.

Most challenging part of this role:
The post holder will be an ambassador for AWP’s services in a Community CAMHS setting, providing a professional and appropriate response to all referrals, regardless of complexity of need. Through the development of effective working relationships with Primary Care colleagues, the post holder will ensure that there will be a smooth transition for young people who need specialist mental health services. Where there are differences in expectations of the service, the post holder will be required to work with referrers to agree evidence based outcomes that best meet the needs of young people and their families, making effective use of the resources available.

Education and Qualification
Essential criteria
* RMN or RN with current NMC registration OR Allied Health Professional with HCPC registration or UKCP registration.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Recognised qualification or working towards a qualification in a specific model of therapy relevant to a mental health setting.
Experience and Knowledge
Essential criteria
* Post graduate experience.
* Previous experience of working with adults, children and their families who experience mental health difficulties.
* Experience of multi-agency working.
* Knowledge of the principles of clinical governance and its application.
Skills and abilities
Essential criteria
* Empathetic and flexible approach to demanding, sometimes physical and/or verbal abuse from Service Users/Patients.
* Ability to manage demanding workload to agreed deadlines and timescales.
* An ability to write correspondence and reports.
