Rate of pay £13.43 per hour. Hours starting at 18 hours which can be flexible and additional hours may be considered. This position is based in West Lothian.
Our PA is retiring after 13 years so we are looking for a personal assistant (PA) to provide companionship and support to a young man (31 years) who has a mild learning difficulty and is well known in his local community.
The young man lives in his own flat with support from the housing association and he has an active weekly routine. Currently he has a PA 21 hours (Mon/Wed/Fri morning), volunteers and plays football weekly with Personal Training twice weekly.
We are looking for someone who will support him with his interests which are football, woodwork and just loves socialising including bowling, attending concerts and football matches. The PA would be expected to join in activities when required and support him with his independence in everyday tasks. We would be keen for a PA to explore opportunities for activities to learn new skills and for social interaction.
The PA must have an understanding of social inclusion and knowledge of supporting behaviours.
Ideally you will have had some experience of dealing with people with learning difficulties. Whilst this young man does have a learning difficulty he is still very capable but lacks the social boundaries to go out and about in the community on his own.
Notes/Essential criteria:
Experience of dealing with people with challenging behaviour would be an advantage but not essential as training will be provided. General good health is important as there will be some outdoor activities.
Caring experience would also be desirable but not essential
A full UK drivers licence and car would be of benefit, mileage separate.
It is essential that an applicant is a member of the PVG scheme or willing to join.
The post will be offered based on the completion of paid trial shift(s), this will be confirmed at interview.
