Lead Pricing Model Developer

The Pricing & Analytics team is currently in the middle of an exciting multi-year journey, alongside Ops & Tech, to develop a new cloud-based platform that will be used to build and host our pricing tools. This creates an opportunity to significantly improve our pricing models with respect to accuracy, consistency, and performance. The Lead Developer will be at the forefront when it comes to developing and maintaining the new platform, shaping our model code base, and instilling best practices across the coding community.

What will your essential responsibilities include?
·Support the new pricing model platform, including leading development of reusable components such as standardized UI, pricing APIs, enabling consistent data capture, and model versioning
·Supply documentation for pricing actuaries to develop their own pricing tools, providing a common framework to easily leverage best practices
·Ensure that the platform enables faster development of pricing tools with scalability across models and to a wide group of developers within Pricing
·Increase the ability to measure calibration of pricing models and make changes quickly to recalibrate models that are not aligned with plan
·Improve consistency of pricing model data capture and ability to reuse that data for other purposes
·Facilitate connections to third party services/data and integration with other internal systems
·Improve user experience within pricing models
·Establish and leverage a strong network of relationships with Ops & Tech, Pricing, and UW to design and implement solutions
·Support migration of existing pricing models to new platform
·Create consistent technical documentation for pricing models within the platform
·Effectively manage junior resources to migrate and improve pricing models

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills:
Required Skills and Abilities:
·Experience of insurance pricing
·Excellent communication skills to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences
·Technical aptitude with experience programming (R/Python, Shiny, SQL, VBA) and working with other technical teams (Ops & Tech)
·Bachelor Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Applied Math, Statistics, or related field.
·Ability to think strategically with a passion for innovation and a desire to utilize new technologies
·Pragmatic and results-driven
Desired Skills and Abilities:
·Experience developing production-standard R code (R Shiny applications, Plumber API's)
·Experience working with microservice architecture
·GIT best practises
·Coding best practises (code and code base structure organisation)
·Experience with core actuarial concepts and with pricing models for commercial lines of business
