Electrical Fitter – Grade 1
Bulk Generation
The Electrical Fitter (Grade 1) is mainly responsible for carrying out preventive maintenance, periodic inspection, troubleshooting (fault location), installation, testing, and repair work on any item of generation electrical plant and equipment, normally up to but not limited to 480 volts, as may be directed by Foreman. The post holder also offers guidance and on-the-job training to those of lower grade and must be able to work with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. Carry out preventive maintenance
2. Periodic inspections
3. Troubleshooting (fault location)
4. Installation, testing, and repair work on any item of generation electrical plant and equipment
5. Offers guidance and on-the-job training to those of lower grade
Supervisory Responsibility
None
Education and Experience
1. High School Leaving Certificate or equivalent
2. Technical Qualification in a relevant field with a minimum of four (4) years Apprenticeship or military training
3. Technical College Certificate or City and Guilds Craft Certificate level or equivalent work experience
4. Minimum of two (2) years post-apprenticeship experience as Fitter or as BELCO Electrical Fitter – Grade II
5. Working knowledge of BELCO’s Health & Safety policies and procedures
6. First-Aid Certificate
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Ability to lift and move tools and equipment of limited weight.
2. Excellent physical condition (e.g., ability to climb and work in confined spaces)
3. Excellent observational skills
4. Good mental and visual concentration
5. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
6. Ability to interpret and follow equipment manuals
7. Proven abilities in on-the-job training and coaching one-on-one
8. Must be dependable, flexible, and safety conscious
9. Must be able to work in a team, but also independently with minimal supervision
