About the Role
Are you a change-agent who is passionate about making a real difference? Active Surrey is looking for a collaborative, ambitious and innovative Place Lead to join the dynamic Active Surrey team. Active Surrey is one of 43 national Active Partnerships funded by Sport England to tackle inactivity which is driven by inequalities. We believe in the power of physical activity and the benefits it can offer: a mood booster, a confidence lifter, a social enhancer and a life extender.
Less than half Surrey's kids are doing enough physical activity every week, which falls to only 4 out of 10 children amongst lower-income families. In addition, 3 out of 10 Surrey adults aren't doing enough, rising to over 4 out of 10 amongst those earning less. That's why we need YOU to join our Movement for Change!
Help us challenge and change the status quo to get more people moving. Help us create a fairer, better, and healthier future for everyone. Reporting to the Head of Children and Young People and supporting Club Welfare Officers, you will also work very closely with the Communities Team and a variety of partners such as boroughs and districts, community partners and the Active Partnerships network.
As a Sports Welfare Officer, you will work predominantly with National Governing Bodies of sport and local clubs (and other sport and physical activity delivery organisations) to promote good practice and safe sport locally, through inducting, mentoring and supporting club/organisation welfare officers. You may support resolution for lower-level concerns, but only if appropriate and they will not have a case management function.
Shortlisting Criteria
* Knowledge of welfare issues, priorities, and policies in sport
* Experience in welfare with children, young people, or adults
* Experience and skills of relationship building (at a local and sub-regional level) with key partners, volunteers and community organisations
* Ability to travel and work evenings and weekend engaging with the welfare workforce
* Educated to degree level or equivalent, relevant work experience and/or professional welfare/safeguarding qualification
