GSL Education are seeking a qualified Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to join a vibrant school in Rotherham, supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). As the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO), you will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the provision for students with Special Educational Needs (SEN). You will work closely with staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure that students receive the appropriate support and that their individual learning needs are met. You will also lead the development and implementation of the school’s SEN policy and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
Responsibilities of the SENCO:
* Lead and manage the provision for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring that individual learning needs are met.
* Coordinate support plans, including Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs), and monitor their effectiveness.
* Provide guidance and support to teachers and teaching assistants on strategies for supporting SEND students.
* Work closely with parents and carers to develop collaborative approaches to supporting students.
* Ensure that all legal requirements concerning Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision are met and that the school complies with the SEN Code of Practice.
* Monitor student progress and outcomes, using data to inform decision-making and resource allocation.
* Contribute to staff training and development in relation to SEN issues.
Requirements of the SENCO:
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) qualification or equivalent or extensive experience in a SENCO role.
* In-depth knowledge of the SEN Code of practice and legislation.
* Experience working with students with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
* Strong organisational and leadership skills with the ability to manage and coordinate multiple support plans.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with parents and carers.
* A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
