THE BUSINESS
Westray Recruitment Group is seeking to recruit a Plant Fitter to work within the Port in the Tyne & Wear area on a permanent basis. You will undertake mechanical and basic electrical repairs and maintenance of Port infrastructure, machinery and equipment.
THE ROLE
Installing, repairing and replacing damaged or defective parts or sections of Port infrastructure, machinery and equipment
Carrying out routine servicing, testing and inspection on plant, equipment and infrastructure
Working to fault find and diagnose plant failings
Working to maintain plant-based equipment such as FLT’s (3 tonne to 33 tonne), loading shovels, JCB excavators, telehandlers, Liebherr cranes/equipment, tug masters, trailers, HGV’s, scissor lifts & cherry pickers
Maintaining vehicle wear and tear to HGV’s and FLT’s created through corrosion or site damage
Assisting with basic facilities upkeep of the site
THE PERSON
Time served Engineer/Fitter with relevant qualifications
Driving license
Ability to undertake mechanical, electrical repairs and maintenance of port infrastructure, machinery and equipment. Demonstrating familiarisation of plant equipment including HGV and Forklift trucks
Basic electrical skills up to 24V
Own tools
Ability to work with hydraulics, gear boxes, pneumatic systems, motors, electrics, transmissions, bodywork, engines, etc
Ability to abide by H&S legislation within a port setting
Able to work independently or as part of a team
Flexible personality and deadline driven
Prepared to work outside at times with a busy Port
THE PACKAGE
This role is paid up to £16.63 to start with the opportunity to progress beyond this to different pay scales. The starting salary equates to £32K per annum, based on a 37-hour week.
The hours of work are Monday to Thursday 8am-4:30pm and Friday 8am-1pm.
In periods of peak season or for holiday cover, you may be asked to form part of a standby rota. This will be a rarity but you will be paid £33 to cover a 24-hour period, if called out you will receive a minimum of 4 hours pay.
Overtime is paid at single rate, except bank holidays where you will be paid a full day rate payment plus any additional hours worked.
