Job Description:
Merrifield Consultants are delighted to be partnering with DEBRA, the national charity and patient support organisation for people living with the rare, extremely painful, genetic skin blistering condition, Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB). Following exciting and consistent growth in income generation over the past two years, the charity is looking to recruit a Deputy Director of Fundraising; someone to lead on delivery of the charity’s Trust and Foundations income stream, support the existing Director of Fundraising through provision of strategic oversight and leadership, and ensure the continuity of fundraising operations.
Role: Deputy Director of Fundraising
Reports to: Director of Fundraising
Terms: Full time, permanent, hybrid (2-3 days in the office)
DEBRA was initially established as a patient support group in 1978 but has since grown into a national organisation supporting more than 3,800 members, including people living with EB, relatives, partners, or carers of someone with EB, healthcare professionals, and researchers working with EB. The charity provides community support, respite, specialist healthcare, and funds essential research to tackle this devastating condition.
The Deputy Director of Fundraising is a newly created role. The post holder will have full accountability for the Trusts and Foundations income stream and line management responsibility for an Individual Giving Manager, Runs and Challenges Manager, and a Trusts Administrator. The role involves overseeing and supporting these teams to meet their targets, working closely with senior colleagues across all sites, and coordinating monitoring and compliance requirements.
Skills and Experience:
* Extensive experience in high-value trusts and foundations fundraising or equivalent high-value fundraising.
* Proven track record of securing five and six-figure grants and writing successful multi-year funding bids.
* Knowledge of the UK philanthropic landscape and key grant-making bodies.
* Strong leadership, management, and strategic planning skills, with experience in developing and motivating teams.
* Excellent relationship-building skills to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
* Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for crafting compelling funding proposals.
* Ability to build long-term relationships with funders and stakeholders.
* Analytical mindset to interpret financial and impact data for bids.
* Highly organised, self-motivated, and autonomous work ethic.
* Familiarity with CRM systems like Access.
We seek someone committed to DEBRA UK's values and mission, passionate about making a tangible impact on individuals and families affected by EB.
Closing date for applications: We interview on a rolling basis, so please apply early.
