Overview
Chigwell Parish Council is looking for a dedicated and compassionate Open Spaces and Cemetery Grounds Operative to join our team. In this role, you will play a vital part in maintaining and enhancing the beautiful open spaces and cemetery grounds in our Parish, ensuring they are well-kept, respectful, and biodiverse.
What You'll Do:
1. Maintain Parish Grounds: Perform regular tasks such as grass cutting, planting, weeding, hedge trimming, and seasonal activities like snow cleaning and leaf removal.
2. Cemetery Care: Prepare graves, work with families and funeral directors, and ensure a dignified environment for all visitors.
3. Support the Community: Interact with bereaved families with sensitivity and respect, offering guidance and support as needed.
4. Equipment Management: Maintain and service tools and equipment, ensuring everything is in top condition.
5. Safety First: Adhere to health and safety protocols to keep yourself and others safe while performing your duties.
Requirements:
1. Experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, and creation of biodiverse environments or a related field is preferred.
2. Experience in operating equipment such as pedestrian mowers, ride-on mowers, trimmers, and hand tools is required.
3. Experience in a public-facing role is preferred.
4. Experience with Microsoft Office is preferred.
5. Basic knowledge of horticulture, turf management, and landscape maintenance techniques is required.
6. The ability to perform manual labour tasks (including heavy lifting) outdoors in various weather conditions with or without a reasonable accommodation is required.
7. Good communication skills and sensitivity to the needs of grieving families are required.
8. Strong organisational and time management skills are required.
9. Flexibility to work occasional weekends or holidays is required.
10. A valid driver's license is essential.
11. Attention to detail and capability of delivering high-quality workmanship is required.
12. Basic computer literacy is preferred.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: Up to £27,269.00 per year
