Barnardo's are seeking to recruit experienced, caring and committed Prison Visits Co Ordinator to join our Prison Visits and Family Support team.
The successful candidate will work alongside the manager and undertake some leadership duties in their absence to ensure the effective delivery of quality support to families who have a loved one in prison.
Location of Post: The role is based in HMP Isle of Wight, which is located in Newport, Isle of Wight.
HMP Isle of Wight is primarily a category B prison for individuals who have been convicted of sex offences. There is also a remand wing for individuals from the local area awaiting trial for a wide range of alleged offences.
Objectives of Service: We support everyone visiting a loved one in prison. Visits take place on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, between 2pm and 4pm, with staff opening the visit centre from 12.00pm to receive early arrivals. Children and families are at the heart of what we do.
Requirements of the role:
Hold a minimum NVQ3 or above in health, education, social care or other relevant field.
Have experience working with children and families within a relevant setting
Have experience working with other agencies and have a good understanding of safeguarding
Understanding of the needs and experiences of children and families using the Visiting Centre
Share our commitment to ensuring the voice of the child is central to the work we do
Have the ability to use IT systems to record your work and update data spreadsheets
Be comfortable and confident in working in a secure environment
It would be desirable to have experience of supervising staff or volunteers
Working hours
20 hours per week Friday 9-4.30, Saturday 11.30-4.30 and Monday 9-4.30. there will need to be an element of flexibility in these hours in order to meet the needs of the service.
This role requires enhanced DBS check and Prison security checks.
There is a requirement that the Co-Ordinator works across two sites, HMP Parkhurst and HMP Albany therefore there will be a requirement to move between these locations frequently.
