Surfacing Operative – South UK
Role Overview:
Working as a Surfacing Operative within a road surfacing team covering the South of the UK.
Key Responsibilities:
* Work collaboratively as part of a team under the direct supervision of the foreperson, ensuring a safe and efficient working environment.
* Maintain a commitment to delivering high-quality, defect-free work in line with project specifications and industry standards.
* Support daily operational activities, including the effective use and maintenance of plant and equipment.
* Operate a variety of machinery and tools, including:
o Dumpers and rollers (vibratory and deadweight)
o Airmaster/Streetmaster loading and excavation shovels (or equivalent)
o Various compressor and electrically powered tools essential for daily work requirements
Job Dimensions:
* Take good care of and wear as required all Personal Protective Equipment ensuring your Manager is advised of replacements when necessary.
* Take good care of all machinery and vehicles for which you are allocated responsibility. Ensure all servicing and maintenance requirements are met and that the fitters are notified of any prospective problems as soon as identified.
* Existing capability or willingness to learn within a prescribed timescale of no longer than 12 months the skills necessary to operate safely and proficiently the following machinery; Paving machine, Chipping machine.
* Operate Dumpers, Rollers – both vibratory and deadweight, Airmaster/Streetmaster loading and excavation shovels or equivalent, Various compressor and/or electrically powered tools that assist in the daily work requirements.
* As above having/learning the following operational skills.
* Manual/mechanical methods of level control to specification of the paving machine.
* Manual handling of all coated material.
* Raking to prescribed levels all coated materials.
* Distribution of chippings both manually and mechanically to specification.
* Banksman.
* Location of underground apparatus.
Job Requirements:
* Hold or attain within a 6 month period all required skill cards such as CSCS and CPCS and any other deemed relevant to the job.
* Full UK Driving Licence.
Education/Qualification:
Previous experience in performing the role is preferable but not mandatory as training/mentoring will be provided to assist the operative in learning the role.
