Job Description
The Senior Controllership Accountant role is a key role within the accounting and finance organisation and will work closely with the UK&I Head of External Reporting and Europe & India Financial Controller. As part of a dynamic team, you will have responsibility for the preparation of year end accounting and audit information for our UK & I legal entities, supporting the UK&I Head of External Reporting in providing technical accounting advice across the region, leading on our annual impairment assessments of investments held by our UK & I entities, and responding to technical accounting and audit related queries from our external auditors.
You will interact with the wider Europe and India finance team, business leaders, our offshore shared service centres, corporate executives, internal and external audit teams, and outside professional advisors. The role will operate across all AECOM divisions, supporting in ensuring accurate and timely internal and external financial reporting information, the management of our legal entity structure, and in optimising this structure to support key business objectives.
Key responsibilities:
* To be a valuable team member within the UK & I Controllership team and assisting in the coaching and mentoring of other team members to achieve best in class performance.
* Supporting the provision of timely, accurate and relevant technical accounting support to the Europe & India business.
* Supporting the UK & I external audit process, including preparing extended trial balances and statutory accounting notes, and responding to queries from auditors.
* Ensuring UK & I statutory financial statements are accurate, comply with local GAAP and legal regulations and are filed in accordance with local timescales, including posting and reviewing journal entries.
* Leading on the annual impairment assessment of investments in subsidiaries, including liaising with local teams and AECOM Corporate, and being the point of contact for queries from our auditors.
* Supervising and directing our offshore Global Business Services (GBS) team to drive the efficient production of statutory accounts using software to optimise performance.
* Building strong relationships with internal and external finance colleagues, business partners, advisors, and key business leaders to support, optimise, explain, and manage the financial structures in place to support the business.
* Supporting the ongoing drive to reduce the complexity and size of our legal entity structure by simplifying legal entities and liquidating older legacy companies where possible.
* Supporting in the collation of financial information to assist bid submissions on potential future projects for the business.
* Participating in special projects and ad hoc requests where possible (e.g. corporate restructurings and significant/ unusual transactions).
* Supporting the implementation of new UK/ US GAAP accounting standards and corporate accounting policies across the Europe and India region in conjunction with our Global Accounting team, where possible.
* Supporting the internal audit process throughout the period to ensure that as a firm our internal control environment is strong and compliant with public company requirements and AECOM policies.
* Working with Tax, Treasury and legal to ensure that all tax, treasury, and finance matters are compliant and optimised where applicable.
Qualifications
Minimum requirements:
* Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent.
* Chartered Accountancy Qualification (ACA, ACMA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA or similar) with 5+ years' post qualification experience.
* Good Microsoft Office skills, including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
* Extensive experience in accounting and reporting: specifically technical financial reporting and audits in a public company environment.
* Must be pro-active and demonstrate ability to see things through to the end.
* Ability to be resourceful, hands on and work both independently and as part of high-performing team.
* Ability to prioritize and juggle multiple duties in a fast-paced environment.
* Must be motivated, work independently as well as part of a team.
* Willingness to work with multiple different colleagues across different geographical regions, on a variety of initiatives.
* Strong technical accounting knowledge and theoretical knowledge in financial reporting.
* Ability to think creatively, analyse and solve problems.
Preferred skills and experiences:
* Engineering & Construction, project management, contract accounting experience preferred.
* Experience of accounts production software / Shared Service environment preferred.
* US GAAP and multi-national company experience preferred.
